For the fifth consecutive year, SHL Medical has joined the Science Train, an initiative organized in collaboration with the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) that introduces young students to scientific principles through hands-on activities designed by academic and industry professionals.
This year, our activities focused on industrial manufacturing. Colleagues from SHL Medical and our subgroups, SHL Advantec and SHL Technologies, developed experiments demonstrating the principles behind our self-injection technologies, including injection molding, metal stamping, and autoinjector design.
"Through hands-on activities and scientific concepts drawn from our expertise, we want children to experience science for themselves and discover how medical technology can improve people's lives," said Sebastian Feng, General Manager of SHL Medical Taiwan. "We are committed to strengthening collaboration between industry and academia and cultivating the next generation of STEM talent."
High school students also joined our colleagues in guiding elementary school participants through the activities, sharing what they learned from our training programs and gaining practical experience interacting with younger students. This year, we collaborated with Keelung Senior High School, Chaochou Senior High School, and Pingtung Senior High School, which has participated with us for three consecutive years.
Meichieh Huang, a teacher who led the participating students from Pingtung Senior High School, shared that students have passed their experience on to successive cohorts over the past three years, extending access to industry resources and opportunities to interact with technology professionals.
Talent development and science education form part of SHL Medical's broader commitment to sustainability. Alongside our industry-academia collaborations, we advance initiatives globally and locally spanning eco-design, renewable electricity, community engagement, and conservation.
In 2026, SHL Medical received an EcoVadis Gold Medal, placing our sustainability performance among the top 5% of assessed companies in our industry. Through education, industry-academia collaboration, and responsible business practices, we continue to create opportunities for the next generation while contributing to the communities where we operate.
