Yankton Medical Clinic and Avera Begin New Collaborative Partnership

A new professional services agreement (PSA) between Yankton Medical Clinic and Avera goes into effect starting Jan. 1, 2026. Signage at the clinic will change to "Yankton Medical Clinic, an Avera Partner."

The PSA, announced in September, means that YMC and Avera are entering into a strategic collaboration designed to enhance health care access and strengthen physician recruitment across the region.

Yankton Medical Clinic remains an independent medical practice - it has not been purchased by Avera and there is no change in ownership. Rather, YMC will partner with Avera for some functions, such as streamlined services.

"This PSA builds increased collaboration with Avera that reflects a shared commitment to the communities both organizations serve to expand access to high-quality, specialized medical care close to home. It will be a great benefit to our patients and the region," said Becky McManus, CEO of Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C.

Patients will experience minimal changes. They will see the same physician or advanced practice provider as in the past, and the same care team.

"The overall care experience will remain coordinated and streamlined, especially if patients need hospital services in the future, such as an inpatient stay or specialty resources," said McManus.

YMC patients have been notified of this change by mail. Prior to their first appointment following Jan. 1, they will be prompted during electronic check-in to sign new registration forms.
