The federal government has paused nonessential operations after Congress failed to reach an agreement to fund the government before its September 30 deadline. While some services provided by the federal government might be impacted, the City of La Mirada's programs and services will not be disrupted.
Shutdowns can have wide-ranging effects on federal programs and services, including delayed grant reimbursements and national park closures. Essential federal programs such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans' benefits, military protection, and air traffic control will continue operating.
The City of La Mirada operates with its own budget, largely independent of federal appropriations. With strong reserves, the City remains financially stable and well-positioned to face economic challenges. Residents and businesses can be assured that La Mirada's public safety services, park programs, community services, and other City operations will continue without interruption.
