Boston University's Charles River Campus, Fenway Campus, and Medical Campus will close on Monday, due to a major snowstorm that's expected to bring blizzard conditions and 18 to 24 inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph and coastal flooding. The Medical Campus includes the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) and its Patient Treatment Centers, and the School of Public Health.

Under BU's policy, the snow day for its campuses means that whether or not a person is scheduled to work remotely, both classes and virtual meetings are canceled and people are not expected to work except in instances where managers have deemed emergency exceptions are necessary or employees are considered essential. (On-campus University essential employees must report as scheduled; essential services include, but are not limited to, University Police, Residential Safety, Residence Life, Dining Services, Student Health Services, Facilities Management & Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Mail Services, and Network Services. Additional essential services on the Medical Campus include Public Safety, Emergency Patient Treatment, and Occupational & Environmental Medicine.)

Medical, PA, and Graduate Medical Sciences students who are assigned to inpatient services or clinics are expected to be present, if possible. Students who are assigned to outpatient services, including GSDM students on externship, should check with their course directors or the policy at the clinical site.

Snow is expected to begin falling Sunday around 4 pm and continue throughout the day Monday before tapering off in the afternoon, with the heaviest snow expected to fall between midnight and 7 am Monday. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced a snow emergency and parking ban for the city starting at 2 pm on Sunday.

  • FitRec will be closed on Monday.
  • Boston University Children's Center will be closed on Monday.
  • Campus dining halls plan to remain open, but with some modifications (the list of hours of operation for the storm can be found here). While the retail operations in the George Sherman Union will be closed, the GSU will remain open and accessible. Other retail operations, such as City Convenience and the BU Bookstore, will also be closed on Monday.
  • Checquers on the Medical Campus will be closed on Monday.
  • All University Libraries will be closed on Monday. Charles River Campus libraries will close on Sunday at 6 pm; the Alumni Medical Library will have regular hours on Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
  • The BU Shuttle's Hyatt route will run Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm. Late-night service will be suspended Sunday and there will be no service on Monday. The BU Shuttle (BUS) will suspend late night service on Sunday, and there will be no service Monday until late night shuttle service resumes at 10 pm.

During the snowfall, temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s to low 20s. Find information about how to stay safe in frigid temperatures here.
