STATEMENT: On Court Order Releasing Emergency SNAP Funds Amid Ongoing Federal Government Shutdown

"I welcome the court's decision that prevents an immediate cutoff of SNAP and appreciate the administration seeking legal clarity; nonetheless, legal questions cannot replace Congress doing its job- we must fully fund benefits now so families don't go hungry.

Though Guam families on SNAP will not have to worry about food on the table this month-thanks to swift local action to secure emergency funding-millions of Americans in other states remain in limbo. The federal government must act with urgency and compassion. Congress must pass full funding, the administration must use every lawful tool available, and the courts must continue to protect families from avoidable harm. Hunger should never be a consequence of political gridlock."
