Meetings and Engagements of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia at the 135th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

On May 15, on the sidelines of the 135th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe held in Chișinău, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan had meetings and conversations with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Neville Aquilina, Director General for Global Affairs, International Development, and Economic Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Massimo Dell'Utri, The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Italy, Marek Eštok, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Frano Matušić, State Secretary for Political Affairs of Croatia and Audra Plepytė, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

During the conversations, the prospects for deepening cooperation on topics of mutual interest within multilateral platforms and international organizations, including the Council of Europe framework, were discussed.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan briefed his interlocutors on the preparations carried out by the Armenian Presidency in the lead-up to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Yerevan this October, including the importance of the Leaders' Summit preceding the Conference. The willingness of Armenia to host a more inclusive COP17 and achieve tangible results was underscored.

In his conversations, the Deputy Foreign Minister also touched upon recent regional developments, emphasizing the importance of consolidating and institutionalizing the peace established in the South Caucasus. In this vein, the importance of unblocking the regional communications and ensuring connectivity for leveraging the untapped logistical potential and promoting economic cooperation was emphasized.

On the margins of the 135th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan handed over the instrument of ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (the Macolin Convention) to Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
