On 5 March, the Political Director of the Ministry Laimonas Talat-Kelpša met with the newly appointed foreign ambassadors to the Republic of Lithuania: Vladimir Alfonso Franco Sousa, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama, Oyundari Navaan-Yunden, Ambassador of Mongolia, and Alan Lazaro Deniega, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines.
The meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Panama focused on Russia's war against Ukraine and its threat to the regional security. Talat-Kelpša stressed that the main challenge facing the international community is to mobilise and sustainably support Ukraine, leading to lasting and sustainable peace based on the principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter. The Political Director thanked Panama for its principled position and called for maintaining and increasing support for Ukraine. Bilateral economic relations between Lithuania and Panama and their further development were also discussed during the meeting.
During the meeting with the Ambassador of Mongolia, bilateral relations between Lithuania and Mongolia were discussed, and the growing political, economic, and academic cooperation was welcomed. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Lithuania hopes to further expand cooperation and enrich it with new cultural, economic, scientific, and innovation projects.
The meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines discussed the growing bilateral contacts in recent years, in particular economic, high-tech, defence, and cultural cooperation. The Political Director congratulated the Philippines on taking over the Chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year and stressed that Lithuania hoped to further develop close cooperation with ASEAN.
Ambassador of the Republic of Panama Vladimir Alfonso Franco Sousa, residing in Berlin, Ambassador of Mongolia Oyundari Navaan-Yunden, residing in Warsaw, and Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines Alan Lazaro Deniega presented letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Lithuania on 5 March 2026.
