WT School of Music Faculty in Spotlight in Grand Recital

CANYON, Texas -West Texas A&M University School of Music faculty members will show off their performance skills in an upcoming performance.

The Faculty Grand Recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT's Canyon campus. Admission is free.

"This annual event showcases the incredible artistry and diverse musical talents of our faculty," Dr. Guglielmo Manfredi, professor of horn. "From classical masterpieces to contemporary works, the recital offers a dynamic and inspiring program that highlights the breadth of talent and creativity within the School of Music."

Scheduled performers include:

  • Dr. Ryan Boehme, assistant professor, on marimba;
  • Dr. James Barger, associate professor, on saxophone with Dr. Sarah Rushing, assistant professor, on piano;
  • A woodwind trio featuring Dr. Connor Bell, assistant professor, on bassoon; Doug Storey, associate professor, on clarinet; and Jessica Schury, instructor, on flute;
  • A brass quintet featuring Dr. Bill Takacs, professor, and David Lough, instructor, on trumpet; Manfredi on horn; Dr. John Shanks, assistant professor, on trombone; and Dr. Jeremy Lewis, professor, on tuba;
  • A trumpet duo featuring Takacs and Lough; and
  • A jazz combo featuring Barger; Boehme; Dr. Russ Teweleit, professor, on trumpet; Austin Brazille, instructor, on guitar; and Dr. Nick Scales, professor, on bass.

Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of the University's long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.

That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign's new goal is to reach $175 million by 2025; currently, it has raised more than $160 million.
