The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, during the video conference with her Ukrainian counterpart
The meeting between Margarita Robles and Rustem Umerov focused on the gratitude for attending to the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the maintenance of Spain's commitment after two years of war in Ukraine. As part of the frequent contacts between the two defence ministers, a videoconference took place as part of the close cooperation and support between the defence ministries of the two countries.
Minister Umerov updated information on the situation on the battlefield. Margarita Robles expressed her recognition that Spain will persevere in its defence of peace in the face of unjustified Russian aggression and has reiterated that "Spain's support will continue to be total and firm until a just peace can finally be achieved for Ukraine."
In addition, the minister updated the status of the latest shipments made by Spain, which continue at a good pace. She also reiterated the commitment to the training of Ukrainian military personnel in Spain on the issues that Ukraine requires, highlighting the latest courses given in mine clearance, international humanitarian law, and the maintenance and use of the sophisticated NASAMS and HAWK anti-aircraft systems, and offering training and instruction in new priority areas.
Minister Umerov was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Defence for European Integration, Serhii Boiev, and Minister Robles by the Secretary General for Defence Policy, Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez.
In their farewell, the two ministers agreed to maintain their intense level of communication, considering it essential to ensure that the support provided by the Ministry of Defence, mainly equipment, instruction and training and humanitarian aid, continues to be the most appropriate to the needs that Ukraine demands at any given time.
