New Digital Tools Enhance Prospective Student Experience

November 14, 2025

Two new web features are helping future Vikings explore Western with greater ease and confidence. University Communications and Marketing, Admissions, and WebTech recently launched a chatbot named Fisher and a LightCast career widget across wwu.edu majors pages.

The Fisher chatbot launched in September and provides 24/7 support for prospective students. In its first six weeks, it has assisted more than 200 individual prospective students and answered hundreds of questions, helping users find information about applying to Western, scheduling campus visits, housing options, and financial aid.

The LightCast tools are being introduced in phases, beginning with the Career Widget, which highlights labor market data, job titles and industries related to each degree. The second phase, an Alumni Outcomes Widget, will show verified career paths and employers of Western graduates, based on National Student Clearinghouse data.

Departments may send questions or feedback about the new digital tools to [email protected].
