BATON ROUGE - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) spoke at the State Convention for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Baton Rouge, where he committed to continue advocating for veterans and their families in Washington.
"It is our duty to support our veterans, who risked their lives to defend our freedoms," said Dr. Cassidy. "In Washington, I'm working to make sure Congress works for them."
In December, Cassidy passed the VetPAC Act and the Gold Star and Surviving Spouse Career Services Act through the Senate. These bills would make VA hospitals more effective and efficient and increase access to job counseling services for widows and widowers of deceased servicemembers.
Cassidy is also a co-sponsor of the Major Richard Star Act, which would allow veterans who were forced to medically retire due to combat or combat-related injuries to receive both their VA disability compensation and full military retirement pay.
At the state convention, Cassidy also met with attendees and discussed how his Baton Rouge office can help them with any individual problem they have with the VA. He was welcomed to the convention by Mr. Paul Hermann, Adjutant for the DAV Department of Louisiana.
"The Disabled American Veterans Department of Louisiana appreciates the time that Senator Cassidy took to attend our department's convention and inform us on the work he is doing in DC to support veterans and especially disabled veterans," said Mr. Hermann.
