Scholl Canyon Landfill Strengthens Waste Disposal Policies to Align with Environmental Standards

Glendale, CA - In adherence to environmental regulations, and in response to ongoing concerns regarding wildfire-related debris, Scholl Canyon Landfill (SCLF) remains steadfast in its commitment to responsible waste management. Under Order WQ 2020-0004-DWQ, Scholl Canyon Landfill is prohibited from accepting disaster-related waste, including burnt materials, as it is an unlined landfill.
To ensure compliance and maintain environmental safety, SCLF has implemented enhanced waste disposal measures, including:
• Strict Prohibition on Disaster-Related Waste: Any waste categorized as disaster-related, such as burnt green waste and structural debris, will not be accepted. Non-burnt debris will be processed at Scholl Canyon Landfill following standard procedures.
• Unburnt Green Waste Policy: Non-burnt green waste that is not classified as disaster-related may continue to be accepted under standard landfill regulations.
• Enhanced Inspection Protocols: Increased on-site inspections will be conducted to prevent prohibited materials from entering the landfill. Any load found to contain burnt materials will be subject to penalties.
• Enforcement & Penalties: Customers attempting to dispose of undeclared disaster-related waste will face a $500 fine and will be required to remove the load from the site. Additional costs will apply for non-compliance.
These measures are critical in safeguarding environmental integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting responsible waste management for the community.
