IDPH to Feature Health-Related Services, Info at Du Quoin State Fair

Fairgoers can find IDPH at its tent on Grandstand Avenue, each day of the Fair

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will offer a variety of health-related services, information, and giveaways at several locations during this year's Du Quoin State Fair, August 28 through September 7, 2026, in Southern Illinois.

"The Du Quoin State Fair is a grand tradition that spotlights Illinois products and services, and it's also a place to get valuable information and services that can help keep you and your family safe and healthy," said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. "I encourage everyone to visit us at our locations at the State Fair and learn more about how IDPH protects communities across the state."

The IDPH tent is located on Grandstand Avenue, near the Grandstand, and will be open from noon to 6pm weekdays and 10am to 6pm weekends during the run of the Fair. The tent will feature information from a number of IDPH programs, including:

  • Environmental Health (home safety, food safety, well water testing)
  • Lead Program, including information on universal lead testing for children
  • Health Promotion (info on vision and hearing screening and newborn screenings)
  • Family Health/Women's Health (Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, family planning, Safe Sleep)
  • Information on finding vaccines across the state
  • Violence & Injury Prevention (overdose prevention/Medication-Assisted Recovery, and firearms safety efforts such as Pause to Heal, End Family Fire, and gun lock distribution)

The Egyptian Health Department will also be on hand in the IDPH tent, distributing naloxone overdose prevention kits each day of the Du Quoin State Fair.

Additionally, there will also be giveaways for both children and adults at the Du Quoin Fair, while supplies last:

  • Children Bags: Red drawstring bag, pencils, lanyard with badge holder (for parents/caregivers to write-in lost-and-found information), stress turtle
  • Adult Bags: cooling towel, sunscreen, lip balm, hand sanitizer gel, ear plugs
