EU in Eswatini launches EU Green Week

On 27 May 2026, the European Union (EU) in Eswatini launched the 26th edition of the EU Green Week under the theme: "Investing in a Nature-Positive Economy - Youth Leading Sustainability, Celebrating 50 Years of Partnership in Environmental Sustainability."

Held in Mbabane, the event brought together the Municipal Council of Mbabane, youth climate leaders, development partners and environmental stakeholders. Together they reflected on the importance of sustainability, innovation and collective climate action.

Speaking during this occasion, EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, said: "The EU Green Week is a campaign that explores how nature-positive models work in practice, focusing on profitable farming, soil health, greening cities, and innovative financing to reverse rural flight."

On the other hand, the Mayor of Mbabane, Thulani Mkhonto, said the city of Mbabane was committed to promoting the green environment and thanked the EU for supporting the Green Week.

At the same time, the Eswatini Environment Authority (EEA) Executive Director, Gcina Dladla, reminded the youth that they are part of leading green solutions in Eswatini.
