8th Street improvements: Overnight lane closures on Fountain Creek bridge Nov. 3

The 8th Street bridge over Fountain Creek will have one lane open in each direction from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, while crews paint the final lane markings. All lanes are expected to reopen in their final layout by 5 a.m. Nov. 4.

The bridge work is nearly complete. South of the bridge, crews continue to install curbs, gutters, sidewalks, a new water main and storm drains between Lower Gold Camp Road and Costilla Street.

Other traffic and transit impacts

  • Friday, Oct. 30 - Fountain Creek bridge: The right northbound lane will be closed during the day.
  • Moreno Avenue, west of South 8th Street: Moreno Avenue remains closed at South 8th Street. Drivers can access Moreno Avenue via Lower Gold Camp Road.
  • Nov. 3-5 - Moreno Avenue, east of South 8th Street: Westbound Moreno Avenue will be closed for utility work. Drivers leaving businesses in the area can use the driveway to the south and Abbot Lane.
  • South 8th Street: Traffic is shifted to the east side of the road between Lower Gold Camp Road and Costilla Street, with one lane open in each direction.
  • Bus stops: Stops 402 (South 8th Street and Costilla Street) and 403 (South 8th Street and Moreno Avenue) are temporarily closed. Riders can call 719-385-7433 (RIDE) for transit information.
  • Abbot Lane: Drivers may encounter occasional daytime lane closures.
  • Saturday work: Crews may also work on Saturdays.

The current traffic pattern between Lower Gold Camp Road and Costilla Street is expected to remain in place until mid-November. Traffic will then shift to the west side of South 8th Street while crews work on the east side of the road.

Access to local businesses remains open and clearly marked throughout the project area. Drivers should plan for extra travel time, slow down in work zones and watch for flaggers directing traffic.
