FIJI AND SOLOMON ISLANDS STRENGTHEN JUSTICE...
The Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Hon. Siromi Turaga, has reaffirmed Fiji's strong commitment to deepening regional collaboration in the justice sector during an official visit to Honiara, Solomon Islands this week.
Hon. Turaga and his delegation were warmly received by the Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs of Solomon Islands, Hon. Clezy Rore, and senior officials during a traditional Chuppu ceremony on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, symbolising friendship, respect, and the strengthening of ties between the two nations.
This visit marks an important milestone in the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year between the two Ministries, which established the Twinning Program - a key platform for mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and professional development in the justice sector.
"Through the Twinning Program, we have created a bridge for mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and professional development," said Hon. Turaga.
"Alone we go faster, but together we go further."
During the visit (12-18 November 2025), Fiji's delegation will engage with senior officials across the Solomon Islands' justice institutions - including the Judiciary, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Public Solicitor's Office, and Law Reform Commission.
A key focus will be the Justice Information Management System (JIMS) - a digital initiative to enhance case management, transparency, and efficiency in justice delivery.
Minister Turaga highlighted that beyond professional collaboration, the partnership reinforces shared Pacific values of unity, respect, and service to the people, strengthening governance, the rule of law, and access to justice across the region.
The Fijian delegation includes senior officials from the Solicitor-General's Office, Chief Registrar, Legal Aid Commission, Fijian Elections Office, and the Ministry of Justice.
Hon. Turaga extended heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Clezy Rore, Permanent Secretary George Hoa'au, and the people of Solomon Islands for their warm welcome and partnership.
"May this visit open new doors of cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect as we continue to strengthen the bonds between our Ministries and our nations," he said.
This engagement is supported through the Australia-Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ) Program, reflecting the spirit of collaboration that drives Pacific unity and progress.
