On 20 January, the Vienna Chapter of the Group of 77 and China held a ceremony to mark the handover of its rotating chairmanship, with India assuming the chair for 2026. Heads of major international organizations in Vienna and Permanent Representatives of G77 member States attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Vienna and other International Organizations, stated that the Group of 77 and China is a backbone in safeguarding multilateralism and an important force in improving the global governance system, playing an irreplaceable role in international affairs. He emphasized that China has always shared a common future with the Global South and will further strengthen solidarity and cooperation with G77 member States. China will actively participate in multilateral affairs across various fields in Vienna, vigorously advocate true multilateralism, firmly uphold the authority and role of the United Nations, actively implement the four Global Initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
