CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to repair the bridge carrying U.S. 30 (Illinois 56) over Illinois 47 (U.S. 30), in Sugar Grove, a temporary full closure of northbound Illinois 47 is scheduled to take place, weather permitting, Thursday, Sept. 3. The closure is necessary to safely install steel support beams over the road.
Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, northbound Illinois 47 will be closed approaching U.S. 30. A detour will direct northbound traffic to exit at Illinois 56 (east) to Galena Boulevard (west) to access northbound Illinois 47. The work is anticipated to be completed and the northbound lanes reopened by 4 p.m.
The overall repairs are expected to be completed in late September.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
