Gilbert Parks and Recreation Honored with Two Statewide Awards at 2025 APRA Conference

Gilbert, Ariz - Gilbert Parks and Recreation is proud to announce that it has received two Best of Best Awards from the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA). The awards recognize the department's commitment to inclusive programming and cultural awareness.

Adaptive Program Award for its innovative sensory bag initiative, which equips recreation centers, libraries, park ranger vehicles, and community programs with tools like noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets, fidget toys, communication cards, and more. These resources help individuals with sensory sensitivities feel supported and included, ensuring that all families can comfortably enjoy Gilbert's parks, programs, and events.

Cultural Awareness Program Award for the Global Village Festival, a vibrant celebration of cultures from around the world that showcases traditions, food, music, and art. The festival brings guests together to learn from one another and highlights the diversity that makes Gilbert a welcoming and connected community.

Each year, the APRA Annual Best of the Best Awards honor communities across Arizona that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, and innovative approaches to delivering high-quality park and recreation services. Award applications are reviewed and scored by a committee of seasoned professionals in the field, both locally and nationally.

Gilbert Parks and Recreation is honored to be recognized among Arizona's leaders in the field and remains committed to providing exceptional service for the community
