Proposed FY 2026-2027 Budget Available for Public Review

The City of DeSoto has released its proposed Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget, giving residents an opportunity to review the City's financial plan, learn about key investments and priorities, and submit questions before the budget is considered for adoption this fall.

The balanced budget reflects the City's commitment to responsible financial stewardship while continuing to invest in the infrastructure, services and programs that support a thriving community. Among the proposed investments are continued improvements to Pleasant Run Road and Hampton Road, the City's annual $5 million commitment to roadway repairs and maintenance, and ongoing funding for deferred maintenance of City facilities and underground infrastructure.

DeSoto continues to use performance-based budgeting, a process that aligns funding with measurable outcomes and the priorities that matter most to residents. The proposed budget handbook also outlines the City's FY 2027 Strategic Priorities, providing insight into the vision guiding City investments and service delivery in the coming year.

City Council officially kicked off the budget process during a special budget workshop on July 31, where members reviewed the previous fiscal year's budget performance, discussed strategic priorities, examined the proposed tax rate, and received presentations on the General Fund, Capital Improvement Plan, enterprise funds, parks and recreation operations, workforce initiatives and other major funding areas.

The budget process will continue over the coming weeks, providing multiple opportunities for public review before adoption.

Budget Timeline

August 3
The City publishes the No New Revenue Tax Rate, Voter-Approval Tax Rate and related schedules.

August 18
City Council will receive the certified tax roll, discuss the proposed tax rate, take the required record vote and receive the final proposed budget.

September 15
Public Hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate.

October 1
The adopted FY 2026-2027 Budget takes effect.

Residents are encouraged to review the proposed budget, explore the Budget Handbook and FY 2027 Strategic Priorities, and submit questions for City staff before the public hearing.
