Vigor Marine Portland completed a docking-selected restricted availability (DSRA) onUSS John S. McCain (DDG 56), an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer, at the Swan Island shipyard in Portland, Oregon. The vessel departed Swan Island following its required maintenance, repair, and certification work, sending it back into service for the fleet out of its homeport of Everett, WA. Approximately 500 skilled workers supported the execution of this availability, underscoring how these projects support both military readiness and family-wage jobs here at home.
The complex availability spanned 2025 and 2026 and required close coordination with the U.S. Navy and numerous subcontractors. Vigor is proud to support fleet readiness through quality maintenance and modernization work and grateful for its strong partnership with the Navy. Our skilled employees take great pride in returning vessels to the fleet safely and efficiently.
The availability included repairs and upgrades to the propulsion system, blasting and coating all tanks, and renewing over half of the vessel's interior deck coatings. VMG also completed a magazine sprinkler alteration, fully renovated Berthing 1 and Berthing 3, and supported a major AWS system upgrade.
In addition to USS John S. McCain, work continues for USS Savannah (LCS 28) and USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) at Swan Island, USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) at Norfolk Naval Base, as well as the USS Kidd (DD-661) at the Harbor Island shipyard in Seattle.
