Consumer confidence in the EU and euro area edges up, moving closer to long-term average

October 2025 : Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area

In October 2025, DG ECFIN's flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator increased for the second month in a row, by 0.8 percentage points (pps) in the EU and 0.7 pps in the euro area. Scoring at -13.5 (EU) and -14.2 (euro area) points, consumer confidence moved closer to its long-term average, breaking a broadly flat trend since April 2025.

September 2025 : Economic Sentiment slightly up in the EU and the euro area, Employment Expectations down in both regions.

In September 2025, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) ticked up in the EU (+0.6 points to 95.5) and the euro area (+0.2 points to 95.5). The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) dipped compared to August (EU: -0.9 points to 97.1, euro area: -1.3 to 96.4). Both indicators continue to score below their long-term average of 100.
