Chairwoman Amy Barela's Statement on Yvette Herrell Confirmation

Washington, D.C. - Former New Mexico Rep. Yvette Herrell was confirmed Thursday night as Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Congressional Affairs, giving her a senior role in the Trump Administration. The U.S. Senate approved her nomination in a 53-43 vote as part of a late push that cleared nearly 100 nominees.

"We are thrilled for Yvette and incredibly proud that she will continue representing New Mexicans at the federal level, just as she has done throughout her past," said Chairwoman Amy Barela. "President Trump's second term has already delivered unprecedented accomplishments, and with the addition of Yvette Herrell at USDA, I am confident that momentum will only continue. Her deep roots in Southern New Mexico give her a firsthand understanding of the agricultural, rural, and economic issues facing our state, making her exceptionally well suited to serve in this role."

Herrell, who represented New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District from 2021 to 2023, advanced after months of review, including a narrow committee vote along party lines. In her new role, she will manage congressional relations for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving as a key liaison between USDA leadership and Congress on legislation, budgets, and policy priorities.

A native of Southern New Mexico, Herrell brings with her a strong connection to the communities she has long represented, ensuring that the voices of New Mexico's farmers, ranchers, and rural families remain part of the national conversation.
