The Texas Real Estate Commission's Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee (BRAC) held its first meeting of the year on January 21, 2026, to elect officers and begin discussions on several issues affecting brokerage practices, including transaction coordination, showing services, and designated brokers.
The committee began by electing officers for the year. Ty Williams was reelected presiding officer (chair), Brian Sales was reelected assistant presiding officer (vice-chair), and Marion Napoleon was reelected secretary.
The committee discussed a wide variety of topics during the meeting, including the role of transaction coordinators in transactions, situations where showing agents host open houses-particularly in light of the changes in Texas law under Senate Bill 1968, how teams and team leads are identified, and the responsibility of designated brokers for business entities. Many of these conversations will continue to be discussed or be part of the future Broker Responsibility Course materials.
Committee members requested future discussion topics include intermediary requirements involving business entities with the same designated broker, the length of time a license may remain inactive, and the continuing education requirements for maintaining or reactivating an inactive license.
