Orrick Scales Market-Leading Financial/Fintech Regulatory Practice with 6-Lawyer Team

  • Lisa Lanham joins Orrick's Chambers USA Band 1 Financial Services & Fintech Advisory practice as a partner in Miami. She will serve as Orrick's Head of Fintech Licensing and is expected to join with a team of five lawyers.
  • Lisa, who is nationally recognized by Legal 500, advises consumer and commercial financial institutions on federal and state regulatory compliance and strategy. Her practice includes state licensing strategy and regulatory change management, enforcement readiness and supervisory/examination strategy, and payments-related regulatory counseling. She helps clients execute financings and M&A transactions to scale and expand into new markets.
  • Her move adds scale to Orrick's 60+-lawyer financial services and fintech regulatory and enforcement practice. The team, which the firm expanded through a 2023 combination with Buckley, advises clients at the federal and state levels as they address novel issues around consumer and commercial finance, including AI and crypto adoption, at every stage of the product lifecycle - from product counseling, to policy and compliance, and investigations, enforcement actions and litigation.
  • This follows Orrick's addition last fall of Chief Trial Attorney of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission Dan Ullman, who serves as co-head of Orrick's Crypto practice.
  • Lisa joins from Greenberg Traurig, where she was a shareholder. One counsel in Washington, D.C. and four associates in Miami are expected to join her.

"The convergence of tech, AI and financial products - and the divergence of federal and state regulation - is creating a moment of opportunity and risk for our clients," said Katy Ryan, who leads Orrick's Financial & Fintech Advisory practice group. "We're thrilled to expand our team with Lisa and her team, who bring the experience to help our clients see around corners as they innovate."

"We have focused for several years on building a financial services and fintech regulatory practice that is the best in the business at serving traditional leaders and disruptive new entrants alike - and we're excited to now scale that team by adding Lisa and her team," added Orrick Chair Mitch Zuklie.

"I've long admired Orrick's Financial & Fintech team, and with regulation and enforcement growing more complex by the day, there's no better time to combine forces to provide clients with the full-service support they need. A bigger, deeper team gives us a broader market view. Additionally, Miami makes it the perfect home. South Florida is one of the nation's fastest-growing fintech hubs in a business-friendly, pro-growth state, and exactly where the next generation of financial companies is choosing to build," said Lisa.

"Miami's emergence as a center for financial innovation has created real demand for top-tier fintech regulatory talent on the ground in Miami. Lisa and her team bring exactly the expertise that companies in this ecosystem need, and we're thrilled to welcome them to our growing Miami office," said Ken Wiggins, leader of Orrick's Miami office, which the firm launched last year.
