De Soto and Spring Hill Libraries reopen after eight-month transformations

Johnson County Library's De Soto and Spring Hill branches recently reopened to the public after full interior and exterior renovations. The new libraries open just in time for the launch of the Library's Summer Reading program and feature:

  • The same great staff, collection and public computers in newly reconfigured layouts;
  • The addition of study and conference rooms in response to community demand;
  • Events such as Book Groups and Storytimes;
  • New façades with patio seating areas;
  • Updated technology;
  • Details to delight both adults and kids: large windows, bold wall coverings, colorful seating and display nooks, poetry displays by Johnson County teens, and interactive play areas.
  • The De Soto branch features a miniature entrance to the kids' area, which has a mural by local illustrator Brad Sneed featuring local landmarks and Johnson County Library's early literacy characters.
  • The Spring Hill branch received a 1,000 sq. foot addition and added both staffed and unstaffed hours as part of a new Extended Access program.

"These communities are growing quickly and deserve libraries with the same great amenities as our larger branches," said Regional Manager John Keogh, who oversees both branch locations. "We know the renovations were a long eight months for many of our patrons, and to welcome them back to such joyful, dynamic new spaces means so much to our staff."

A full list of branch amenities and hours of operation can be found at jocolibrary.org/desoto and jocolibrary.org/springhill.
