Iowa Utilities Commission to host four public meetings in September
DES MOINES, Iowa (September 1, 2026) - MidAmerican Energy will take part in four consumer comment meetings this month as part of the Iowa Utilities Commission's review of the company's proposal to adjust natural gas delivery rates. The public sessions include three in-person meetings and one virtual event, where customers can learn more about MidAmerican's proposal and share feedback directly with regulators.
In July, MidAmerican filed a request with the commission to update the delivery portion of its natural gas rates, which supports the infrastructure and operations needed to move natural gas to homes and businesses. The update would affect delivery rates only, not the cost of gas.
This request is designed to preserve the integrity of the gas system without jeopardizing historically low monthly bills. If approved, the typical monthly residential gas bill would increase by about 5%, or $2.89 per month. Because natural gas prices are lower today than they were in 2006, average total monthly bills would remain below what customers paid 20 years ago.
At the public meetings, MidAmerican will present information about its natural gas rate request, including the reasons for the proposal and how it would affect different customer classes. Customers will have an opportunity to ask questions and comment on the proposed rate adjustment. Representatives from MidAmerican, the Iowa Utilities Commission and the Iowa Office of Consumer Advocate will attend.
The consumer comment meetings are scheduled for:
-
Cedar Rapids - Sept. 8 at 6 p.m., Hilton Garden Inn, 4640 N. River Boulevard N.E.
-
Virtual - Sept. 9 at noon, through the Iowa Utilities Commission hearing and meeting calendar at iuc.iowa.gov
