Gianni Di Stefani started his career at a small start-up company. His involvement in the development of stents (used to treat narrowed arteries) ignited a passion for research and development (R&D). Having spent nearly three decades working within the R&D team at Baxter, that same passion for his work continues to shine!
When an opportunity arose within Baxter in Belgium to further his career, Gianni jumped at the chance. He started as an engineer within R&D at a junior level and over the years, progressively taking on new roles with increasing responsibilities across all areas of the organization, focusing on different product and therapy areas. Gianni is now Associate Director, Research and Development, leading the Pharmaceuticals team, focused on the development of container platforms (or delivery systems) for generic injectable medications (including ready-to-use products), in Braine-l'Alleud (BAP), Belgium.
During his time at Baxter, Gianni has worked on several major projects, from new product packaging to new product development and the evolution of drug delivery systems for existing products.
"It is so rewarding when you get to see a product you have been involved with, from brainstorming through to launch, finally being used on patients," Gianni said. "Research and Development is not always an easy process and sometimes projects you are invested in have to stop for a variety of reasons. I am always so proud when I see products in regular use that I have been involved in developing."
Gianni says he is still constantly learning whether it is a new therapy or technology he is working on - this opportunity to continually learn, develop and grow is what keeps Gianni at Baxter.
"I have been able to collaborate with multicultural teams from around the world and always learn from different perspectives, which help shape my understanding," he said. "All of this is professionally enriching and personally rewarding. That's why, even after almost three decades, I still feel motivated, passionate and proud of the work I'm doing."
When he is not busy developing new products in his spare time, Gianni likes to travel the world with his wife Anne to rest and relax. Gianni was born and lives in Belgium and is also an Italian citizen, where he enjoys spending time vacationing.
