Notice to the Public and Request for Information

Subject to AS 35.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Cascade Towing Inc.

PROJECT NAME: LAS 21917

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:

State-owned submerged in Thomas Bay near the southern tip of Ruth Island, approximately 12.5 miles northeast of Petersburg at 56.9733°N 132.8204°W.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

Approximately seven acres of state-owned tide and submerged land in SW1/4 NW1/4 Section 35, Township 56 South, Range 79 East, Copper River Meridian.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:

Cascade Towing Inc (applicant) is requesting renewal of a five-year Land Use Permit for the year-around moorage of a commercial-use mooring buoy. The buoy is secured to the submerged land by one 5000-pound star anchor and is used to moor primarily unoccupied barges.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:

Start: October 5, 2026

End: October 4, 2031

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: June 11, 2026

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a discussion is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southeast Regional Land Office, 400 Willoughby Ave./PO Box 111020, Juneau, AK 99811-1020 or to the email address below on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
