Experts Discuss AI Integration into Education in CIS Countries

On 10 June, the Expert Advisory Board on Science and Education under the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA CIS) took place at the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The meeting was chaired by Andrei Rudskoi, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences,Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences.

The session was opened by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy. He announced the establishment of the Lyudmila Verbitskaya Prize, which will recognize significant contributions to the development, support, and promotion of the Russian language.

First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Science and Higher Education Irina Ganus invited council members to participate in the St. Petersburg International Scientific and Educational Salon.

Participants discussed the use of artificial intelligence in education, the regulation of generative content in academia, and the future of science in CIS countries.

Head of Laboratory No. 42, V. A. Trapeznikov Institute of Control Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences, founder and director of the company "Dumeyt" Yury Chekhovich called for a reassessment of educational quality control systems in response to the growing use of AI.

Andrei Rudskoi stressed the need for common standards governing the ethical use of AI-generated content and measures to identify concealed plagiarism.

Rector of the Minsk City Institute for Education Development Tatyana Moroz presented Belarus's experience in improving educators' competencies through AI technologies, while Rector of Andijan State Pedagogical University Rasulov Baxtiyor shared Uzbekistan's experience in applying AI in teacher education.

Vice President of Elsevier Publishing House Marat Fatkhullin highlighted the risks AI poses to the traceability of scientific knowledge and emphasized the growing strategic importance of data.

Vice President of the Russian Library Association, Executive Director of the Association of Producers and Users of Educational Electronic Resources Natela Kvelidze-Kuznetsova, and Director of the Empress Fundamental Library at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia Maria Feodorovna, together with her Deputy Svetlana Morozova discussed AI applications in bibliographic work and issues of academic integrity.

Deputy Marketing Director of "Lan Publishing" Vladislav Nikiforov, and Editor-in-Chief Ekaterina Pozdnyakova presented concerns about "learning without immersion" and introduced the company's LanGPT model.

The meeting brought together representatives of parliaments, academia, business, and educational institutions from CIS countries.
