Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County and the community-based board of directors for Eskenazi Health Center are pleased to announce that Saura Fortin Erazo, M.D., MBA, has been named CEO of Eskenazi Health Center. Dr. Fortin Erazo succeeds Dawn Haut, M.D., who announced her retirement earlier this year after serving as CEO since 2017. Dr. Fortin Erazo will start in her new role on Oct. 25.

"Dr. Fortin Erazo brings a wealth of expertise to this role, having served as chief medical officer (CMO) for Eskenazi Health Center for the past seven years, and I am pleased that she is joining Eskenazi Health's senior leadership team," said Dr. Lisa Harris, CEO of Eskenazi Health. "Dr. Fortin Erazo shares our longstanding commitment to prevention, health promotion and primary care, knowing that the greatest opportunity to improve the health and vitality of a community is to keep people well in the first place."

As CEO of Eskenazi Health, which includes Eskenazi Health Center and Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Dr. Harris will work with Dr. Fortin Erazo to continue Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County's deeply rooted primary care services across Marion County.

Eskenazi Health Center, the primary care division of Eskenazi Health, is the largest network of federally qualified health centers in Indiana and is comprised of 10 health center sites and two mobile units. Dr. Fortin Erazo has played a pivotal role in increasing primary care visits across Eskenazi Health Center, which doubled between 2016 and 2025. Her focus on increased access helped facilitate Eskenazi Health Center achieving more than 450,000 patient visits last year. Better access to primary care is a critical step toward improving community wellness and reducing costly emergency and hospital care.

"Dr. Fortin Erazo is a proven, effective leader with a passion for achieving a better patient experience and improving clinical operations and provider satisfaction," said Dr. Haut, outgoing CEO of Eskenazi Health Center. "She has been a tremendous partner in helping to lead Eskenazi Health Center in positive and meaningful ways, and I'm excited to see her take on this new role and the innovations she will continue to bring to enhance care for our community."

A family medicine specialist with more than 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Fortin Erazo joined the Eskenazi Health team in 2010 as a primary care physician with Eskenazi Medical Group. She has served as CMO of Eskenazi Health Center and vice president of Eskenazi Medical Group since October 2019. Dr. Fortin Erazo previously served as chief physician executive of Eskenazi Health Center Primary Care and Eskenazi Health Center Primary Care - Center of Excellence in Women's Health. Her professional experience also includes working as an assistant professor for clinical family medicine with the Indiana University School of Medicine.

"I am truly grateful to the Eskenazi Health Center board of directors and the leadership teams at Eskenazi Health and Health & Hospital Corporation for their trust in me as I step into this role," said Dr. Fortin Erazo. "With Dr. Haut's expert guidance and continuing along the path of leadership she set forth, I look forward to working with my Eskenazi Health Center colleagues to pursue innovative and value-based ways to deliver primary care services to our patients."

Dr. Fortin Erazo received her medical degree in 2002 from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, then completed her family medicine residency in 2010 at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Seeking to expand her administrative skills, Dr. Fortin Erazo pursued a Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business from 2016 to 2018, and in 2024, she became a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

"We have the utmost confidence in Dr. Fortin Erazo to continue to lead Eskenazi Health Center with a patient-centered and community first mindset," said Whitney Ball, chairperson of the board of directors of Eskenazi Health Center. "Dr. Fortin Erazo embodies the commitment to serve the most vulnerable populations, and on behalf of the board of directors, we welcome her with great enthusiasm."

A board member of the American Heart Association, Dr. Fortin Erazo is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Association for Physician Leadership, National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives and the American Medical Association. She is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and was recognized by the American Medical Women's Association with the exceptional mentor award in 2018. In 2021, Dr. Fortin Erazo was recognized as the recipient of the Indiana Latino Contributions in Health award from the Indiana Latino Expo and was named to Indianapolis Monthly's 2023 Top Doctors List in family medicine.
