MAC, MDOT announce award winners for outstanding achievements in improving Michigan aviation

LANSING, Mich. - At their Sept. 17 meeting held in Harbor Springs in conjunction with the Michigan Association of Airport Executives (MAAE) fall conference, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission (MAC) and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the Award of Excellence winners for achievements in promoting and improving aviation. These awards are presented to airports, aviators, professionals, consultants and others.

The 2026 award winners are:

• Cheryl Bush, director of aviation for Oakland County, for her outstanding leadership and lasting contributions to Michigan's aviation industry. She guided nearly $20 million in investments across Oakland County International, Oakland/Troy and Oakland/Southwest airports, strengthening the system's $500 million annual economic impact. Her dedication is reflected in her service with the MAAE, Michigan Business Aviation Association and the Great Lakes Chapter of Women in Aviation. Bush embodies technical expertise, determination and genuine kindness that has earned her respect as both a leader and a mentor in aviation.
• Eaton Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) Career Preparation Center for their outstanding contribution to developing Michigan's future aviation workforce. Through hands-on training at the Capital Region International Airport, the program equips high school students with real-world aviation experience, technical skills and college credit opportunities that help build a strong talent pipeline for the region's aviation industry.

"The MAC, MDOT and the aviation community congratulate both award winners and thank them for their continued leadership and contributions to Michigan's aviation community."

The MAC and MDOT have recognized airports, individuals and organizations whose innovative contributions have led to significant improvements to facilities, operations or public relations that support aviation in Michigan. The MAC is responsible for the general supervision of aeronautics within Michigan.
