The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the replacement of Bridge No. 07153 will be initiated on Route 188 in Southbury. This project is scheduled to start construction activities on Monday, May 11 and estimated to be completed on Monday August 31, 2026. The project 0130-0023, consists of the removal of existing bridge 071531 and surrounding masonry, excavation for new structure and installation of precast 6 ft x 7 ft box culvert and precast wingwalls, channel work which consists of replacement of streambed materials and rip rap. Construction of new roadway with full depth road construction/replacement of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), installation of guide rail, topsoil and plantings.
CTDOT Project No. 0130-0023 was awarded to Dayton Construction on 08/19/2024 and is scheduled to be completed 8/31/2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District IV in Thomaston

A segment of Route 188 will be closed to thru traffic starting Monday, May 11, 2026 to Monday, August 31, 2026. Traffic will be detoured around the project. Traffic control signage patterns and uniformed flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone. Residents residing on Route 188 will be able to access their properties and Walnut Brook Lane will remain open.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
