Senator Schmitt on Fox News: “We Have an Illegal AND Legal Immigration Problem”

Blasts Democrats' Failed Open Border Policies, Refusal to Fund DHS

ST. LOUIS, MO - Today, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) joined Fox News' Ingraham Angle to call out the insanity of Democrats continuing to hold DHS funding hostage and the need for immigration reform.

Senator Schmitt on Democrats' Refusal to Fund DHS:

"Voters are smarter than that, and I think it's important to put this in context. The Democrats let in 15 million people in this country, including tens of thousands of murderers, hundreds of thousands of violent criminals and terrorists, and now what they're doing is defunding the Department of Homeland Security, among sleeper cells that we know of and terrorist attacks. I mean, this is insanity at the highest level. They simply just care more about defunding ICE than they do about anything else, because they want open borders, they want mass amnesty, and they think they can get it if we don't actually enforce our immigration laws. Republicans should hold firm here. We voted to fund all of them. We voted to fund TSA, Coast Guard, Secret Service, all the other agencies wrapped up in this. But the Democrats have voted no because of Trump Derangement Syndrome and their obsession with open borders and mass migration."

Senator Schmitt on the Need for Immigration Reform:

"There's a few things we need to do. One, we need to make sure the border remains closed. The deportations need to continue, regardless of the Democrat whining about it. They don't think that a sovereign country should ever be able to tell people, you know, who can come and who should have to leave. We should not relent on that. And then also, we need to reform our legal immigration system. A lot of these people have come in legally. A lot of American workers have been displaced by foreign workers. A lot of American students have been displaced by these visa mills at universities and tax breaks that companies get after the fact. So we've got a lot of work to do, but we clearly have laws right now that need to be enforced. Federal law enforcement can't enforce those. And I just want to point out one thing, the insanity of the sanctuary jurisdictions that they defend, it literally means that this monster that stabbed the woman in Virginia to death, who has 30 priors, an illegal immigrant, that Governor will not tell federal law enforcement or ICE when that person gets released from prison, they will not tell federal law enforcement when rapists and murders are released into our communities, the Democrats have totally lost their way here."
