Mapfre reduces its carbon footprint associated with energy consumption in its offices by 65% thanks to the use of renewable energy sources

Mapfre continues to strengthen its commitment to energy efficiency as a fundamental pillar of its decarbonization strategy, with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2030 in all countries where it operates. This has been highlighted on the occasion of World Energy Efficiency Day, which is celebrated today, March 5, the date on which the main advances have been announced.

In 2025, the company exceeded the energy consumption reduction target set in its 2030 Environmental Footprint Plan, which was 16%, achieving a 27% reduction in the purchase of electricity and fossil fuels, such as natural gas and gasoline. Compared to 2022, this represents savings of 40 million kWh.

The reduction in energy, combined with the use of renewable energies, has also contributed to the company reducing its carbon footprint associated with energy consumption in its offices by up to 65%. This has been made possible thanks to measures such as the installation of photovoltaic panels, the optimization of work spaces, and the investment in more efficient equipment, with which Mapfre has reduced the electricity bill by 32% in the buildings located in the 25 countries where it operates.

One of the key initiatives for decarbonizing buildings has been the electrification of heating systems, replacing natural gas or diesel combustion with equipment powered by emission-free electricity, such as photovoltaic panels installed at major facilities or through power purchase agreements backed by renewable energy guarantees of origin.

More than 9,000 solar panels

Among the company's main energy efficiency measures in its buildings, the installation of 9,177 photovoltaic panels stands out. In 2025, these panels generated more than 4 million kWh of electricity for self-consumption, primarily at facilities in Spain, Mexico, Italy, Peru, Malta, Portugal, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.

Additional key measures include the optimization of workspaces-combining smart design, responsible usage habits, and the appropriate selection of equipment-the replacement of conventional lighting with LED systems in Italy, Germany, Colombia, Malta, Spain, Peru, Venezuela, and Chile, and the upgrading of HVAC systems in the United States, Spain, and Chile. Together, these initiatives delivered a further 3 million kWh in energy savings.

Backed by a green seal

The company continues to pursue a comprehensive approach to sustainability through the sustainable certification of its Group buildings. In 2025, a total of 25 buildings obtained sustainability certifications (LEED, BREEAM, or Energy Star), representing 59% of the Group's owned administrative building space.

These certifications promote improvements in water optimization, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, the use of low environmental impact materials, and sustainable mobility. They also encourage reduced reliance on private vehicles in favor of active mobility-such as walking, cycling, or using other non-motorized means of transport, including non-electric scooters.

All these measures contribute to minimizing the environmental impact of buildings on the soil and ecosystems and promote the well-being of employees.
