Yesterday, Onward Opportunities, the investment company focussed on UK smaller companies closed the market at the London Stock Exchange to celebrate its final day trading on AIM ahead of its move up to the Main Market today.
Launched in March 2023 on the AIM market by lead fund manager, Laurence Hulse to target a structural market opportunity in UK-listed smaller companies, the fund has been one of the best performing and fastest growing UK Smaller Companies funds for much of its life since launch, with significant outperformance against its benchmark UK AIM All-Share Total Return indices.
Laurence Hulse, Founder & Lead Fund Manager, said:
"Our move up to the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange is another step forward for Onward Opportunities, reflecting the successes of our first three years. Our strategy has outperformed both the IA UK Smaller Companies and AIC UK Smaller Companies sectors since launch and the Company has trebled in size during that period. We're thankful for the standout support shown by existing and new shareholders alike as the Company has consistently raised new capital at a premium to target what remain highly attractive UK smaller company valuations.
To date, the Company has raised over £30m through its Initial Public Offering on AIM and eleven follow-on capital raises, being recognised as 'AIM IPO of the year' at the 2024 Small Cap Awards and for 'Best Use of AIM' at the 2025 AIM Awards.
The Snow Leopard featured in the Company's branding and has never been more apt. They are a crepuscular creature and an endangered species, typically occupying cliffs and ridges. As investors in UK public companies there are clear parallels to draw, and we now have the added agility that will come with a Main Market listing, enabling us to raise new capital more quickly to capitalise on opportunities.
We take comfort from what we have been able to achieve as an active UK equity fund through the pronounced conditions in our first three years and look ahead with confidence in delivering additional growth and returns for our shareholders."
