The following is a statement from Rare CEO Brett Jenks on the recent events taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota:

"Like many friends, allies, and supporters around the world, we are horrified by the events unfolding in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The tragic deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents-along with the loss of life of Luis Gustavo Núñez Cáceres, Geraldo Lunas Campos, Víctor Manuel Díaz, Parady La, Luis Beltrán Yáñez-Cruz, and Heber Sánchez Domínguez in 2026-have shaken many communities including Rare's. We mourn with the families and communities who have lost loved ones and extend condolences to all those grieving these senseless losses.

"For over 50 years, Rare has worked to support marginalized communities. We are committed to the dignity of all communities-whether they are in the Global South or America's heartland-and stand in solidarity with vulnerable communities who are experiencing fear, pain, and injustice. We are also a decidedly hopeful organization and are inspired by the thousands of people in Minneapolis braving freezing temperatures to gather in peaceful protest, and the wave of demonstrations across the country they have generated.

"Rare believes in the collective power of community to enact change. We encourage and support Rare staff, partners, and supporters who are taking thoughtful, constructive action to uplift and protect vulnerable communities in the U.S. and around the world."
