City of Columbia employee arrested for stealing

(COLUMBIA, MO)-

On March 31, the Columbia Police Department received an anonymous tip regarding a suspicious individual wearing a City of Columbia Public Works uniform who was exchanging a large amount of coins at a local business.

An investigation identified the individual as James Faup, 39, of Columbia, an employee of the City's Public Works department. Investigators determined that Faup had been removing coins from parking meters and exchanging them for paper currency for personal use.

On the morning of April 2, Columbia Police officers arrested Faup for three counts of felony stealing and one count of misdemeanor stealing. He is suspected of engaging in this conduct on multiple occasions, resulting in the theft of thousands of dollars. Faup is no longer an employee of the City of Columbia.

Inquiries regarding personnel matters will be addressed in accordance with City policy.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652.
