State Representative Mike Odioso (R-Green Twp.) is extremely pleased that Vistra plans to continue operating the Miami Fort Power Plant beyond 2027 and convert the plant to a modern, natural gas-fueled operation. Vistra leaders discussed the plans at a recent event, celebrating 100 years of generating power at the Miami Fort site.
The plant had previously been set to close by the end of 2027.
Vistra cited several changes over the last five years since its original closure announcement, including the sharp increase in current and projected electricity demand, recently passed legislation such as House Bill 15, and the improved federal regulatory environment combined with the critical role Miami Fort continues to play in the reliability of the regional power supply.
Rep. Mike Odioso partnered with his fellow members of the Ohio House Energy Committee, along with Congressman Warren Davidson, Ohio Senator Bill Blessing (R-Colerain Township), and Rep. Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) to support extending operations at the plant, which will be beneficial for Miami Township, Three Rivers School District, Hamilton County, the Southwest Ohio Region and the entire state.
"Vistra's ongoing positive relationship with our community and the legislative team has helped keep options on the table for the Miami Fort site to continue supporting reliability for the PJM power grid well into the future," said Rep. Odioso.
