Spring Festival Trains in China Become “Mobile Museums” of Traditional Culture

As the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse approaches on the Chinese lunar calendar, a unique cultural experience has unfolded aboard speeding high-speed railway trains.

On the morning of February 9, Train G848, the "High-Speed Railway Mobile Museum" themed cultural train carrying a rich festive atmosphere and profound historical and cultural heritage, departed from Gansu province in northwest China, leaving Lanzhouxi Railway Station and traveling more than 2,000 kilometers before arriving at Guangzhounan Railway Station in Guangdong province before midnight the same day.

Stepping aboard, each coach resembles a museum. Images such as Han Dynasty bamboo slips, Dunhuang Flying Apsaras, Majiayao painted pottery and the Bronze Running Horse of Wuwei are displayed before passengers through posters, window decals and hanging decorations.

The themed train was jointly created by CR-Lanzhou, the Gansu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Gansu Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration. For the first time, nine local national first-class museums, including the Dunhuang Academy, Gansu Provincial Museumand Gansu Jiandu Museum, brought treasured collections and local folk customs onto high-speed railway trains. Through immersive decorative exhibitions and interactive experiences, passengers are able to appreciate ancient civilization during their Spring Festival journeys.
