The City of Pearland will conduct a temporary disinfectant conversion in its water system beginning March 2, 2026, through March 31, 2026. This proactive measure, recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), is designed to enhance long-term water quality for residents by temporarily switching disinfection methods from chloramines to free chlorine.
During this process, water will remain safe for consumption and continue to meet all state and federal standards. Residents may notice minimal odor changes and increased hydrant flushing, which could cause temporary discoloration or sediment. These are aesthetic effects only and will not alter the safety of the water regarding consumption.
Special precautions apply for dialysis patients and aquarium owners who should follow standard water treatment procedures and/or consult equipment manufacturer guidelines.
