PennDOT Updates Drivers on Route 322 Preservation Project

10/23/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said the contractor for a concrete preservation project impacting Route 322 in Mifflin County will change the traffic pattern from a right (travel) lane closure to a left (passing) lane closure on Monday, October 28. This project will improve ride quality and extend service life while improving safety.

This switch will impact traffic on Route 322 eastbound and westbound between the Milroy and Reedsville-Belleville exits in Armagh and Brown townships. These lane closures will be in place between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. PennDOT anticipates work at this location wrapping up by 6:00 PM Thursday, October 31, bringing work in these lanes to a close.

All lanes will be open in time for Penn State's home football matchup against Ohio State on Saturday, November 2. If weather or other unforeseen circumstances delay work progress, the contractor will still lift all lane closures by 6:00 AM on Friday, November 1, to avoid impacting those traveling to the game. It will not reinstate the lane closures before 6:00 AM on Monday, November 4. If necessary, PennDOT will issue an update on when work will resume.

Overall work on this project includes repairs to concrete roadway surfaces, drainage improvements, rumble strip installation, and pavement markings on six roadways in PennDOT's North Central region. Route 322 is the only roadway scheduled to see work as part of this project during the 2024 construction season. Work on the remaining roadways involved in this project will be completed during the 2025 construction season. Those roadways are:

  • Route 220 northbound and southbound between the Harrison Road and Pine Creek exits in Clinton County, including work on the ramps at the Harrison Road interchange.
  • Route 22 eastbound and westbound between the Port Royal and East Salem-Thompsontown exits in Juniata County.
  • Routes 75 and 2001 (Industrial Park Road) northbound and southbound between Route 3002 (Main Street) and the interchange to Route 22/322 westbound toward Lewistown.

JVI Group Inc., of York Springs, PA, is the contractor for this $5.1 million project.
