Statement on Passing of Atlanta Police Department Recruit Moses Russ

ATLANTA-Mayor Andre Dickens issued the following statement on the tragic passing of Atlanta Police Department Class 302 Recruit Moses Russ.

"Atlanta lost a young public servant this morning with the passing of APD Recruit Moses Russ. Moses was just 24 years old, an Atlanta resident and someone who had already dedicated more than two years of his life to serving his country and our city-first with the U.S. Coast Guard, then with the Atlanta Department of Corrections and, since March, as a member of APD Recruit Class 302.

"Moses was on his way to continue that journey of service when his life was cut far too short in a traffic collision near the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center. The pain of this loss is especially heavy for his classmates and instructors, some of whom came upon the scene and stopped to render aid to one of their own. My heart is with Moses' family and loved ones, his Class 302 brothers and sisters, his instructors and the entire APD family. We will surround them with support in the difficult days ahead and honor Moses for the life he lived and the service he had already given to his country and Atlanta."
