The Brazilian government condemns the attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which took place on March 29 and 30 and resulted in the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers and injuries to officers from the same battalion. It also expresses repudiation of the Israeli attacks that, on March 28, killed three Lebanese journalists, in flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law and of freedom of the press.
Deliberate attacks against members of peacekeeping missions and United Nations facilities constitute a serious violation of international law and International Humanitarian Law and run counter to the provisions of the Security Council.
The Brazilian government extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the governments of Indonesia and Lebanon, and wishes the injured a swift and full recovery.
While condemning the continued occupation of part of Lebanese territory by Israel, in violation of that country's sovereignty, international law, and the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, Brazil urges all parties involved to immediately cease hostilities and reiterates its call for compliance with the terms of the November 27, 2024 Ceasefire Agreement and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).
