News Release

Deadline for Hoosiers to Apply for FEMA Assistance is Oct. 25

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana residents who were affected by the August 2026 severe storms, tornados and flooding and have not yet applied for FEMA assistance are encouraged to act quickly. Applications must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.

The easiest and quickest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-3362.

In-person events are being held this weekend in different locations to help survivors with their application, check their status and answer questions. For available locations and times visit, on.in.gov/August2026Disaster.

When survivors apply, they will need to provide:

  • Contact information (phone number, current mailing address, email address, and damaged home address)
  • Social Security number
  • A general list of damage and losses
  • Annual household income
  • Banking information if they choose direct deposit
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

Financial assistance may be available to make repairs so the home is safe, sanitary and functional until more permanent repairs can be made.

Some Reasons to Call FEMA

  • If a survivor can't live in their home because of damage caused by the August storms. Financial assistance may be available for temporary housing while they make repairs to their home or find a more permanent housing solution.
    • Survivors can also request continued temporary housing assistance if they can't move back into their home because the repairs are not completed.
  • Additional uninsured damage which wasn't apparent right after the storms is found.
  • If a survivor's furnace is damaged from the disaster. FEMA recommends checking the furnace as soon as possible to ensure it is in good working order before the weather changes.

Disaster survivors who feel they have been discriminated against based on race, color, nationality, sex, religion, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status have the right to file a complaint by contacting FEMA at [email protected] or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
