Passing of Herman Rick Frederick Richardson

It is with great sadness that the Court announces the passing of Herman "Rick" Frederick Richardson on February 13, 2026 (link to obituary).

Rick was a Columbia native and proud graduate of Dreher High School. He earned both his Bachelor's Degree in Music and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina. Over the course of his legal career, he served thousands of consumer clients and his community with dedication and professionalism. Rick was respected by colleagues for his steady presence and mentored many in the bankruptcy bar, including his daughter Mary Powers, who continues her practice before the Court. The Court extends its deepest condolences to his spouse of 57 years, Jennifer, and his family and friends during this time of loss.
