The bookseller also highlights their Game of the Month and four new Albums of the Month
New York, NY - August 1, 2025 - Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the newest books, games and music to be featured in Barnes & Noble bookstores nationwide.
Songs for Other People's Weddings is the Barnes & Noble Book Club pick for August, and the bookseller welcomes readers to join author David Levithan at a free live virtual event on Monday, September 8th at 3PM ET. The author will be in conversation with Mallory Rochester, Store Manager at the Calabasas, CA Barnes & Noble, to discuss the title as well as answer questions from audience members. Attendees must register via Eventbrite to access the livestream on Zoom.
David Levithan's unparalleled prose meets Jens Lekman's lyrical genius in a tender new novel about the unlucky in love. J, an accidental wedding singer, and V, his girlfriend whose career is taking off overseas, navigate the ebbs and flows of their long-term relationship as physical distance begins to mirror the growing separation between the two. In a world where love is often measured through comparison, J makes many discoveries about his own relationship through the personalized songs he writes for each couple at the ceremonies where he performs. Messy, complicated, relatable, witty, lyrical, and heartfelt - Songs for Other People's Weddings is a novel that will resonate deeply with readers and will stick in their heads - and hearts - right alongside all their favorite songs this summer.
The Barnes & Noble Book Club showcases a newly published work of fiction each month, chosen by their booksellers to provoke, engage and enthrall book lovers. Leading up to the event, readers can share their thoughts and engage in conversation on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub. During the livestream, readers are encouraged to participate in the discussion and submit questions to be answered throughout.
The Barnes & Noble Game of the Month for August is Harmonies, the award-winning habitat creation game from Libellud, the studio behind Dixit Disney.
Designed by Johan Benvenuto and illustrated by Maëva Da Silva, Harmonies invites players to explore the beauty of nature through three-dimensional tile-placement and challenges them to build harmonious ecosystems using elements like water, stone and vegetation.
Harmonies is all about unity and being one with the environment - rather than compete for resources or domination, players strive to achieve balance between their flora and fauna, and attract and sustain as many animals as they can. The player with the healthiest, most thriving habitat at the end of the game wins!
Whether playing solo or with a group of up to four, Harmonies is easy to learn, visually captivating and perfect for families, casual gamers and nature-loving enthusiasts seeking a relaxing yet rewarding strategy experience. Combining strategic depth, thoughtful mechanics and accessible gameplay, it's a must-play for fans of Cascadia and Azul.
Barnes & Noble is also pleased to announce its August selections for Albums of the Month in the following categories: Alternative, Artist to Watch, Pop and Rock. The Album of the Month program celebrates the full spectrum of the music industry, highlighting both fresh and classic albums across an array of genres.
The bookseller has named Gigi Perez as the Artist to Watch for August for her first full-length studio album, At The Beach, In Every Life. First finding fame on social media, Gigi garnered widespread attention upon release of her 2024 single "Sailor Song." Now topping charts worldwide, this is a music buff's last chance to get in on the ground floor.
In the Alternative category the bookseller has chosen Tame Impala's 2015 album Currents. Kevin Parker, the singular musician behind all of Tame Impala's studio albums, first conceived of the music project in 2007. Currents, Parker's third album under the moniker, went on to win Best Rock Album and Album of the Year in his native Australia.
Jack Johnson's Brushfire Fairytales has been tapped as the Pop pick for August. Brushfire Fairytales, Johnson's debut album, has since gone Platinum in the US. A multitalented artist, in addition to singing, songwriting, and playing various instruments, Johnson is also a surfer and filmmaker. All of these interests converge in his music, lending it a cinematic yet laid back sound.
Take Me Back to Eden by Sleep Token has been tapped as the August Rock pick. The members of Sleep Token have taken pains to maintain their anonymity, disguising themselves on stage and avoiding interviews, but that hasn't stopped them from leaving their mark. "The Summoning", the first single from this, their third album, has become one of their most popular songs. Take Me Back to Eden went on to win Billboard Music Award for Best Hard Rock Album in 2024
