FIRE INCIDENT AT HOTEL IN MAKKAH

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs refers to a fire reported at approximately 5pm local time on 12 March 2026 at the Mira Ajyad Hotel in Makkah.

Upon receiving information regarding the incident, the Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah, immediately coordinated with the relevant Saudi authorities as well as Malaysian Umrah travel agencies to verify the situation and the safety of Malaysian pilgrims staying at the hotel. Preliminary information indicates that approximately 70 Malaysian pilgrims under TH Travel, Zahafiz Travel and Rayhar Travel were staying at the hotel.

The three agencies have confirmed that all Malaysian pilgrims under their care are safe and accounted for. During a follow-up check by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah conducted at approximately 720pm local time, several Malaysian pilgrims were also observed gathered safely near the hotel area.

At this stage, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Saudi authorities. Based on information available at present, there is no indication that the incident was caused by a drone attack or any form of sabotage.

For safety reasons, guests are temporarily not allowed to return to their rooms while investigations and safety inspections are being conducted by the relevant local authorities. Should there be any delay in clearance, the hotel management and the respective travel agencies will arrange temporary accommodation for affected guests.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah, continues to closely monitor the situation and remains in contact with the Saudi authorities as well as Malaysian travel agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of Malaysian pilgrims.

Malaysian pilgrims currently in Makkah are advised to remain calm and to follow the instructions issued by the local authorities and their respective travel agencies.
