What you need to know: The Fresno Commercial Drive Test Center (CDTC) will close temporarily for renovations on March 20 at 4 p.m. However, most customers who are not applying for a commercial driver's license (CDL) do not have to visit an office and can do their DMV business online at dmv.ca.gov.

Sacramento - The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that the Fresno CDTC at 735 E. North Ave. will close temporarily for renovations beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 20. Renovations include reconfiguration of the office interior to improve efficiency and carpet replacement in work areas. The office is scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 13.

Until the renovations are complete, customers can visit the following area offices to complete the requirements for a commercial learner's permit (CLP), which is the first step towards obtaining a CDL:

  • Fresno: 655 W. Olive Ave. (7 miles from the Fresno CDTC)
  • Fresno North: 6420 N. Blackstone Ave. (12 miles from the Fresno CDTC)
  • Clovis: 2103 Shaw Ave. (15 miles from the Fresno CDTC)
  • Reedley: 1890 E. Dinuba Ave. (23 miles from the Fresno CDTC)

It is important to note that the offices above do not conduct CDL skills (drive) tests, which are only given at select DMV offices and by appointment only. The nearest offices that conduct CDL skills tests are:

  • Modesto: 124 Burney St. (97 miles from the Fresno CDTC)
  • Bakersfield: 3120 F St. (105 miles from the Fresno CDTC)

More information about CDL application requirements can be found on the DMV website.
