Lozier Engineers Support UNL Women in Engineering Event

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that women make up just 16 percent of engineers. Last week, two Omaha engineers helped bridge the gender gap by connecting with women pursuing careers in engineering.

Anyanna Rodriques, Industrial Engineer III, and Lauren Berke, Product Engineer II, met with more than 40 students from the University of Nebraska Lincoln's Women in Engineering Club. Community Outreach & Engagement Manager Ralph Kleinsmith also attended.

The event featured engineers from a wide range of disciplines, giving students the opportunity to explore different career paths in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Robotic, Civil, Environment, Chemical and more.

Berke emphasized the value in the event providing opportunities for students to explore a multitude of engineering disciplines. "It is an opportunity for the students to learn what kind of skills that different engineering disciplines focus on, and how similar or interconnected the different engineering disciplines can be."

"This helped the students realize what they may be more interested in based on their skills or areas that they can focus on developing those skills. This is also valuable because some even learned about engineering that they didn't even know about yet."

Approximately 100 female engineering students and various other technical programs attended the event, which brought together 20 industry partners to share information about their companies and connect with prospective summer interns and full time employees. The program was sponsored by the UNL Women in Engineering Student Club.

The Lozier team spoke to many students about how Lozier aims to help interns get the most out of their internship, as well as the learning of engineers through cutting-edge technology, skills, and education.

"I hope the students remember that Lozier is very dedicated and willing to work with furthering the education and learning of our interns and employees," added Berke.

Following the event, Berke and Rodriques invited 11 engineering students to visit Lozier. Each student was also encouraged to stop by the Lozier booth at UNL's recent Career Fair to meet with various members of the HR team to learn more about summer internship opportunities and full time careers.
